  • SSL Hardware Acceleration—offloads costly SSL encryption. Accelerates key exchange and batch encryption to deliver the highest performance on the market.

  • HTTP Compression—Ability to cost-effectively offload traffic compression processing from the server. Improve page load times and lower bandwidth usage.

  • OneConnect? connection pool—aggregate millions of TCP requests into hundreds of server-side connections, increase server capacity, and ensure efficient processing of requests by back-end systems.

Achieving Higher Reliability
In VIPRION systems that include multiple cards, cards can be removed without interrupting operations. Other cards will immediately share the traffic processing. You can also add another level of redundancy by configuring VIPRION to be deployed as active or standby. The chassis is built to include redundant power supplies and field-replaceable components. Multi-level redundancy can greatly reduce the probability of system interruption.

F5's ScaleN architecture enables you to scale up or out as needed, creating an elastic application delivery controller processing platform that can grow as business needs change. The ScaleN architecture provides an excellent way to scale application delivery services, enabling true deployment flexibility and simplifying system and application level maintenance. It achieves longer application uptime and helps you meet strict Service Level Agreements (ServiceLevelAgreements, SLAs).


The flexibility to scale up on demand, deploy virtual ADC instances and scale out is enabled by three key unique F5 technologies:

Clustered Multiprocessing (CMP) —CMP provides the ability to cluster and pool multiple processors (cores) in the system and across different processing cards, aiming to create a high-performance traffic processing platform. With CMP, VIPRION creates a virtualized processing fabric that efficiently utilizes all available CPU resources. As you add new cards, more processor cores are seamlessly added to the system. In the occasional failure, you can remove the card from the system without interrupting operations.

Virtual Clustered Multiprocessing (vCMP) —vCMP hypervisor enables multiple ADC instances to run on a VIPRION appliance, each with dedicated CPU, memory, and other resources. This provides multi-tenancy and complete network isolation. Each instance can then run a different version of the F5 TMOS operating system to meet business needs. vCMP allows you to implement virtualization while achieving a higher degree of redundancy and control.

Device Service Clustering (Device Service Clustering, DSC) - DSC provides the ability to group devices and services across multiple systems (device, VIPRION chassis, or virtual editions) to create a horizontal cluster. With DSC, you can create a cluster of highly available appliances that scale out on demand. Devices can be added to or removed from a device service cluster without interrupting application services. You can switch specific application services to any device in the cluster. With DSC, a 1:1 active-standby model can be scaled to N:1, where as many active devices as needed can share application load based on resource constraints and availability, enabling true scale-out.

Virtualization Processing Fabric Shares Add-In Card Load

Using custom discrete ASICs, high-speed bridge FPGAs and advanced software, VIPRION can jointly share the processing load within a single card and across the entire chassis. The physical interface is fully meshed. Any port on any card can be used for any application, so systems can be connected for redundancy and simplicity.


Cluster Management Reduces Administration Time
Reduces the time required to manage application delivery networks. To administrators, the VIPRION appliance appears like a single application delivery controller. One card is automatically selected as the "Master" card, and all settings and control functions are mapped to the other cards. When a new card is inserted, it installs the firmware version from the primary card, copies all of its settings, and begins processing traffic within minutes.
SuperVIP simplifies the network
VIPRION does not need to divide a single application with strict requirements, but uses SuperVIP. It is a virtual IP that covers multiple cards within a VIPRION system. Demanding applications will use SuperVIP to take full advantage of the processing power of all cards in the system.

TMOS offers high performance and flexibility

At the heart of VIPRION is F5's unique TMOS operating system, which provides a unified system for better application delivery, giving you complete visibility, flexibility and control across all services. TMOS enables VIPRION to intelligently adapt to the diverse and evolving requirements of applications and networks.
